1. How do I know whether my soft-top is fabric or vinyl?
Double-duck, mohair or canvas fabric tops will look similar to tent material in appearance whereas vinyl tops will look like grained plastic.
Don't rely on what type of top your car had when it was first released as the original top may have been changed since then from canvas to vinyl or the other way around.
2. Are Renovo products safe to use on my soft-top and will they harm my paintwork?
Renovo products are water based in order to be entirely kind to both your soft-top and your paintwork. However, we recommended that you wipe off any spills or drips with a damp sponge or cloth as you go.
3. What should I use to clean my fabric soft-top?
Renovo Soft Top Canvas Cleaner.
4. My fabric soft-top is all green and mouldy, what should I do?
Use Renovo Soft Top Canvas Cleaner in conjunction with a soft scrubbing brush to remove the mould and then apply Renovo Ultra Proofer to help prevent the same problem from re-occurring.
5. How many applications are there in a 500ml can of Renovo Soft Top Canvas Cleaner?
The number of applications will depend on how dirty the top is, how liberally the product is applied and how big an area is being cleaned. Therefore, one to a few applications can be used as an average guide.
6. What should I use to clean my vinyl soft-top?
Renovo Vinyl Soft-Top Cleaner.
7. Can I use Reviver to re-colour my vinyl top?
NO. Reviver is for fabric tops only.
8. How many applications are there in 500ml of Renovo Vinyl Cleaner?
This will depend on how dirty the top is, how liberally the product is applied and how big an area is being cleaned. Therefore, one to three applications can be used as an average guide.
9. How long should I leave Renovo Vinyl Cleaner on my soft-top?
The product can be left on the top for one to several hours depending on how dirty it is, the longer the solution remains on the soft-top the longer the active ingredients will be working.
10. What should I use to protect my vinyl soft-top?
Renovo Vinyl Ultra Proofer.
11. How frequently should I use Renovo Vinyl Ultra Proofer?
Renovo recommends you apply Vinyl Ultra Proofer every 6 - 12 months. However, if your car is a 'daily driver' or parked outside, you should consider re-applying Reviver every 3 - 6 months.
12. How many applications are there in 500ml of Renovo Vinyl Ultra Proofer?
As an average guide there will be one to three coats, this will depend upon how large the soft-top is and how liberally the product is applied.
13. My fabric soft-top has faded, do you have a product that will re-colour it?
Yes, Renovo manufacture Soft-Top Reviver which re-colours and re-conditions like new. Make sure you clean the top first with Renovo Canvas Cleaner and ALWAYS apply Renovo Ultra Proofer after Reviver.
14. In what colours is Renovo Soft-Top Reviver available?
Reviver is currently available in Australia in black and dark blue. The dark blue is about the shade seen on Saabs and newer BMWs. It is more THIS than THIS. However, there are lots of 'blues' around so we can't guarantee an exact match. Black, is of course, black!
15. How do I apply Renovo Soft-Top Reviver?
Simply paint onto the top using a new 50mm/2" paintbrush. It is important to apply each coat in one complete application to avoid the possibility of tidemarks forming. If at all possible, apply Reviver out of direct sunlight to avoid rapid drying before a coat has been completed.
16. How long will the Reviver take to dry?
This will depend on several factors i.e. atmospheric conditions, how liberally the product is applied, how porous the fabric is. Therefore, as a general guide at least 2 hours but can be as long as 24 hours. It is important to let each coat dry completely as the product is water based and any moisture left in the fabric would dilute the next product application.
17. How much Reviver will I need?
As a general guide there is enough product in one litre to coat a smallish size soft-top twice, and likewise, one coat in 500ml. However, if your top is badly faded you may need more than one coat.
18. What should I use to waterproof my fabric soft-top?
Renovo Ultra Proofer re-establishes the 'as new' waterproof weather barrier.
19. How much Ultra Proofer will I need?
As a general guide there is enough product in one litre to coat an average size soft-top twice and likewise one coat in 500ml.
20. How frequently should I use Ultra Proofer?
We recommend applying Ultra Proofer approximately every 6 - 12 months in order to maintain its optimum protection capabilities.
21. How do I know that Ultra Proofer has waterproofed my fabric soft-top?
When a fabric soft-top has been Ultra Proofed, water droplets from a shower of rain or hosepipe spray; will form into beads on the surface of the fabric much as it does on the paintwork. The appearance of the beading will diminish after a continuous amount of water saturation! Beneath the surface layer, Ultra Proofer will continue to REPELL WATER ALTHOUGH THE SURFACE LAYER MAY APPEAR WET TO THE HUMAN EYE. Once the soft-top dries out the beading will again become noticeable in subsequent rainfall.
The beading effect will diminish over time; hence we recommend that Ultra Proofer is used every six to twelve months in order to maintain optimum waterproofing!
22. My plastic rear screen is all cloudy, do you have a product to rectify this problem?
Yes, Renovo Plastic Window Polish will remove the microscopic scratches that cause this milky appearance.
23. How do I apply Plastic Window Polish?
Simply polish on and polish off with a soft cotton cloth, best results are achieved when the polish is added frequently to the cloth in small quantities. You may need to repeat the process two or three times on very 'sad' windows to achieve best results. To keep your plastic windows (etc) in best condition NEVER clean them with household window cleaners as these are intended for use on glass and usually contain chemicals which can damage plastic permanently. The same advice applies to plastic film window tints.
24. Should I clean my top before using Reviver or Ultra Proofer?
Yes. It is important that your roof is completely clean before applying other products. This will ensure that you get the best results every time.
25. I tried to register as a customer but I get stuck on a screen called Billing & Shipping Information because it says my address is overseas and you don’t ship overseas. Help!
If you live in Australia, just ignore the message ‘Sorry but we don’t ship to international addresses’ and continue on by clicking the ‘Get shipping Rates’ button at the bottom of the page. On the next page (Shipping Method), click on the ‘Continue’ button. You should now be on the ‘Review and Payment’ page and almost finished!
26. Why is Renovo more expensive at my local retailer than it is on-line?
Firstly, our on-line prices are also our Recommended Retail Prices (RRP) but remember that they do not include shipping costs, which are added into the total cost of an order before checkout.
As to local Renovo retailers we cannot, by law, require them to sell Renovo at our RRP or in fact, at any particular price.
Having said that keep in mind that each retailer has costs and profit margin requirements that are unique to that business, and of course, they pay a freight delivery charge on each order of Renovo.
However, if you think that Renovo prices at your local retailer are way out of whack with our RRP (plus freight) please take it up with them rather than us because we really can’t do anything about it.
27. Do you ship to New Zealand?
Yes but unfortunately we have to use an international courier because Australia Post does not generally allow liquids to be sent through the mail. This means an order such as a Large Car Fabric/Canvas KIt would cost about $AU100 to send to NZ by courier. In some cases it may be cheaper to buy direct from Renovo International (UK) because they can send orders through the mail. However, we are happy to fill your order if you prefer but our system does not allow on-line sales to other than Australian addresses. Just drop us an email and we will get back to you.
